Megan was the perfect fit for my dog and

I. She carefully tailors the plan to your/your dogs needs and makes sure you're prepared before the training begins. I have a fearful, scared parvo survivor that had a rough start to life and Megan has worked WONDERS with her.

She took it slowly, never forced an interaction and paid extremely close attention to my dogs comfortability level.

If you're looking for an educated, hands on, communicative and smart trainer you've found the perfect person. I cannot thank Megan enough for what's she's done for my family. I'll continue to get sessions even after training has been completed because my dog loves her so much and we all learn new things each time she is present. Thank you for being such an amazing human Megan!!!!!

When you get a new puppy, and you're unfamiliar with a breed that offers so many challenges, an owner's biggest challenge is the fear of the unknown.

Working with Megan changed fear to calm rather quickly. Upon meeting Megan, and seeing her working with her own dog, it was quite clear she understand the nuances of a Dachshund. But it was beyond her knowledge of the breed itself, but her appreciation for what owners needed to learn as well.

If I were to refer Megan to a friend, I would explain first and foremost that her title should be Dog Owner Educator. She doesn't train your dog, she educates owners on how to train their dogs. While she is capable of taking your dog for personal training, it behooves anyone hiring her to train WITH her. Megan instills an understanding of how dog owners can interact with their pups efficiently.

Long after having Megan to our home for our training, her impact continues months afterward, as I will still go back to our fundamentals, at least once a week with one-word commands, reminding Kahlua of his basics. As Kahlua turns 1, I can say much of his socialization and behavioral skills stem from what Megan offered and/or suggested during our training. I'm certainly thankful for our time with her and highly advise anyone looking for someone to educate them on being a dog owner to retain The Motivated Mutt.

We can’t say enough AMAZING things about Megan, both as a dog trainer and as a person! She immediately connects with both you and your dog(s) and gives such great practical advice on actually understanding why your dog does what they do and how we as dog owners can better connect with our dogs. Once she helps you understand your dog, she shows you how to instill politeness, behaviors, and fun tricks that you desire. She not only trains dogs but trains owners, which is the best part in our book! We feel like we actually understand and enjoy time with our dog now that she knows polite behaviors and we know how to bring them out in a healthy way. She also worked with our crazy work schedule and gave us tips for helping our dog adjust to our new baby on the way! We can’t thank Megan enough and recommend the Motivated Mutt to any dog owner!

If you are wondering which of the many dog trainers to go with in town pick Megan with The Motivated Mutt. She is highly knowledgeable, supportive and a hard worker. She believes in using methods that are effective, and will help you create a better relationship with your dog. Raising a puppy, getting a rescue dog, or a new dog, can be overwhelming! I am so glad I found her. I have learned so much from her!

Megan has been such a good resource and so supportive as a trainer for me and my dog Franny. Looking back at all the progress Franny has made since I picked her up at the shelter makes me feel like our training journey is well worth the work. Megan has been so helpful in helping me understand how to pay attention to Franny’s behavior and keep her under threshold around her triggers, and she’s always there to help us celebrate when I text her our little and big training wins. I would definitely recommend her as a trainer!!

I believe when it comes to dog training, we need very honest and helpful reviews in order to find that right trainer who matches our personality, point of view and expectations but foremost to match our dog's personality and needs. You need to decide if you are willing to fully commit to invest not just your money but also your time in the training sessions and beyond, meaning training on a daily basis for the rest of the dog's life.

There is a misconception about dog training. Some people just want the bad behavior or problem of their dogs fixed and expect that from a dog trainer be done, so they can keep going on with their daily lives. I made that big mistake when I got my first dog man, many years ago. After problems arose, I had her trained by a professional dog trainer for 4 weeks without my presence or possibility of me to learn how to handle my dog. At the end of that expensive training, I had a perfectly trained dog, listening to every command, demonstrated by the dog trainer, also presented me with a video of the training to take home. After 2 weeks being back home my dog was back to her previous behavior issues...
My lesson learnt was you should never let your dog be trained or "fixed" by a trainer and think you don't have to put any work into it.
This time I was looking for a trainer who teaches and trains my reactive dog the humane way, who is not intimidating my dog with shouting, leash jerking or any other kind of verbal and physical forceful manipulation and dominance. I needed a trainer who was willing to be super patient and take small steps for however long it will take and do all that in one-on-one sessions, not group training because my dog is also fearful of most other dogs. My dog was sitting in a rescue shelter for many years before I adopted her. She is a reactive dog, meaning she reacts to everything what makes her anxious and fearful like loud noises, fireworks, wind, smells, barking dogs, vehicle noises etc. It got to the point where she refused to go on walks or outside the house at all, except the backyard and sometimes not even that.
In Megan I found that trainer, we clicked right from the initial interview session. Megan is such a wonderful, compassionate human being and she has patience beyond I have ever seen. Megan is very calm and approaches the dog training in a humane, treat based way which made my dog having fun doing the training sessions. She has taught me how to correct "our issues" by taking very small steps, repeating those on a daily basis, progressing in a snail speed in the beginning and there was never anything rushed. She explained the why, what and how of everything we did, making sure that I understood perfectly how to do the training before we moved on to the next session. Every session was customized to my dog's needs. Megan gave me all kinds of tools, suggesting ways and new approaches when something didn't quite work. She always emailed me detailed reviews of the training session, follow up's, homework assignments or links to literature to read, videos to watch. I can't praise her enough for what she has done for me and my dog!
Having a strong bond with my dog, that bond has formed even tighter now. It has transformed not only my dog but also myself.

If you are in need of a good honest, reliable dog trainer and you are confused by the many choices out there, I can just highly recommend Megan. She is very skilled and knowledgeable, and she owns a reactive dog herself, which gives her a perfect understanding of your needs, frustrations, helplessness and worries, she is going through everything herself on a daily basis.

1000 Thanks to Megan and I hope that this review will be helpful to somebody else.
